Bob and Joyce Pellegrini were one of the original pioneers in the Long Island wine community. After partnering in a small vineyard in the 80’s, they quickly realized the potential of the North Fork region. In 1991, the Pellegrini’s purchased their own vineyard and built a 14,000 square foot winery complex that was one of the very first wineries that integrated the entire winemaking process. After a year of planning, Bob, a NYC based graphic designer worked side by side with builders to create an architecturally striking two-story tasting room bolstered by oak posts and hand-hewn beams. A trellised walkway connects it to the spacious and modern production facility where visitors can watch the wine making process. Upstairs is a private tasting area with spectacular panoramic views of the winery’s centerpiece, its courtyard which features a classic Italian cloister design. It came to be so difficult finding reliable well drillers that he finally decided to start drilling his own wells. He was so successful at this that he gradually gave up plumbing and heating to specialize exclusively in wells. As a young man I saw the opportunity in the field and so instead of going to college I joined him in the well business. That was in 1948 after I graduated from high school. In those days we would improvise our own rigs out of old 1927 Buicks with attached "cat head" drives off the rear wheels. That was a method that was so dangerous that it eventually became illegal. In 1955 we bought our first factory-made cable tool machine. (What an improvement - a blessing!) Over the past 50 years the drilling equipment and materials that we use have changed dramatically. They are a lot safer! We now have 5 rotary well machines that install PVC wells with stainless steel screens that are state of the art for quality and long term trouble-free service. Osprey's Dominion

Ninety acres of vinifera grapes grow under the watchful eye of the soaring Osprey, our vineyard’s namesake. Our state-of-the-art winery shows our commitment to fine winemaking. Our first vines were planted on 24 acres in Peconic in 1983. An additional 16 acre parcel in Mattituck was purchased and planted in the late 1980’s, but it wasn’t until the early 90’s, when we purchases 50 acres of land and buildings at our present Main road location in Peconic, that we began producing and selling the Osprey brand.
