Bob and Joyce Pellegrini were one of the original pioneers in the Long Island wine community. After partnering in a small vineyard in the 80’s, they quickly realized the potential of the North Fork region. In 1991, the Pellegrini’s purchased their own vineyard and built a 14,000 square foot winery complex that was one of the very first wineries that integrated the entire winemaking process. After a year of planning, Bob, a NYC based graphic designer worked side by side with builders to create an architecturally striking two-story tasting room bolstered by oak posts and hand-hewn beams. A trellised walkway connects it to the spacious and modern production facility where visitors can watch the wine making process. Upstairs is a private tasting area with spectacular panoramic views of the winery’s centerpiece, its courtyard which features a classic Italian cloister design. Our first vines were planted on 24 acres in Peconic in 1983. An additional 16 acre parcel in Mattituck was purchased and planted in the late 1980’s, but it wasn’t until the early 90’s, when we purchases 50 acres of land and buildings at our present Main road location in Peconic, that we began producing and selling the Osprey brand. In 2012, our entire Richmond Creek second label was introduced to compliment the Osprey line. Proudly serving you since 1930 Beginning in the early 1930's my dad Maurice started his own plumbing and heating business. He needed to sub-contract well drillers to supply the water for the jobs. It came to be so difficult finding reliable well drillers that he finally decided to start drilling his own wells. He was so successful at this that he gradually gave up plumbing and heating to specialize exclusively in wells. As a young man I saw the opportunity in the field and so instead of going to college I joined him in the well business. That was in 1948 after I graduated from high school. In those days we would improvise our own rigs out of old 1927 Buicks with attached "cat head" drives off the rear wheels. That was a method that was so dangerous that it eventually became illegal. In 1955 we bought our first factory-made cable tool machine. (What an improvement - a blessing!) Over the past 50 years the drilling equipment and materials that we use have changed dramatically. They are a lot safer! We now have 5 rotary well machines that install PVC wells with stainless steel screens that are state of the art for quality and long term trouble-free service. GNS Mermaid Water Systems

Originally known as GNS Contracting Corp., Mr. William Gremler and Mr. Cliff Saunders founded the company in 1974 in order to provide solutions to the growing number of water issues arising on the North Fork of Long Island. In 1996, current owner Mr. John Scaramucci purchased the business, which had expanded its service area to most of Suffolk County and some of Nassau County. GNS's name was changed to GNS/Mermaid Water Systems, with intentions to eventually phase out the “GNS” portion (GNS stands for 'Gremler and Saunders'). Today, Mermaid has increased the density of its coverage in Suffolk and Nassau and expanded even further, servicing clients in Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan. In addition to changing the culture of the company and adding many new faces, Scaramucci also developed a sound method of testing and personally certifying any equipment that was to be sold and installed. As a former carpenter and owner of Scaramucci Construction, John’s mantra is “measure twice, cut once.” He has applied this to all aspects of the company and his life, just ask any of his colleagues or his three sons, two of which are current GNS/Mermaid employees.
