Bob and Joyce Pellegrini were one of the original pioneers in the Long Island wine community. After partnering in a small vineyard in the 80’s, they quickly realized the potential of the North Fork region. In 1991, the Pellegrini’s purchased their own vineyard and built a 14,000 square foot winery complex that was one of the very first wineries that integrated the entire winemaking process. After a year of planning, Bob, a NYC based graphic designer worked side by side with builders to create an architecturally striking two-story tasting room bolstered by oak posts and hand-hewn beams. A trellised walkway connects it to the spacious and modern production facility where visitors can watch the wine making process. Upstairs is a private tasting area with spectacular panoramic views of the winery’s centerpiece, its courtyard which features a classic Italian cloister design. We have been growing and selling grapes on Long Island’s North Fork since the mid 1990s in the hamlet of Cutchogue, where we have our family home. Russ McCall planted our first vineyard knowing he would wait until the vines were mature and time was right to release his first wines. He wasn’t interested in putting our family name on a bottle unless it was worthy. 2007 was the vintage we found to be our jumping off point. Proudly serving you since 1930 Beginning in the early 1930's my dad Maurice started his own plumbing and heating business. He needed to sub-contract well drillers to supply the water for the jobs. It came to be so difficult finding reliable well drillers that he finally decided to start drilling his own wells. He was so successful at this that he gradually gave up plumbing and heating to specialize exclusively in wells. As a young man I saw the opportunity in the field and so instead of going to college I joined him in the well business. That was in 1948 after I graduated from high school. In those days we would improvise our own rigs out of old 1927 Buicks with attached "cat head" drives off the rear wheels. That was a method that was so dangerous that it eventually became illegal. In 1955 we bought our first factory-made cable tool machine. (What an improvement - a blessing!) Over the past 50 years the drilling equipment and materials that we use have changed dramatically. They are a lot safer! We now have 5 rotary well machines that install PVC wells with stainless steel screens that are state of the art for quality and long term trouble-free service. Now my sons, daughters and grandsons are all working for the family business. America's oldest sailmaker Born to a family of sailmakers in Scotland, our founder, William J. Mills, settled in Greenport, NY on the North Fork of Long Island. The area, known for it’s impressive whaling and oyster fleets, was in need of a master sailmaker and thus William J. Mills & Company was born. With the introduction of steam and gasoline powered engines at the turn of the 20th Century, William J Mills recognized that the days of a commercial fleet powered by sails were short lived.
